iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Should You Upgrade Your Phone?

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14

An iPhone 11 vs iPhone 14 comparison is particularly relevant if you haven’t upgraded your iPhone since 2019. And considering how many of us are holding onto our phones for longer these days, that could include a sizable number of people.

The iPhone 14 is the newest model in Apple’s line of smartphones, featuring all the standard bells and whistles.

Although we are aware that you adore your current phone, it might be time to upgrade. Read on to learn how the iPhone 11 and iPhone 14 compare from various angles.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Design

The aesthetics of these two iPhones differ quite noticeably.

The iPhone 11 shares the same curved lines as the iPhone X, Xs, and Xr, while the iPhone 14 uses Apple’s latest flat-edged design, which debuted with the iPhone 12, has a smaller notch than the one on the iPhone 11.

The two phones are similar, but the iPhone 14 has sharper lines that look more contemporary and harken back to the iPhone design era that began with the iPhone 4.

Here’s how the two compare in terms of dimensions:

  • iPhone 14: 146.7mm x 71.5mm x 7.8mm; 172g
  • iPhone 11: 150.9mm x 75.7mm x 8.3mm; 194g

As you can see, the iPhone 11 is heavier by more than 20 grams and is also taller, fatter, and thicker than the most recent model.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Display

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14

Although the screens on both devices are 6.1 inches, the iPhone 14 has some notable improvements. First off, the display on the newer model is OLED rather than the inferior LCD on the 11. Additionally, the iPhone 14 is noticeably brighter, has a higher resolution, HDR, and a higher contrast ratio.

iPhone 14

  • 2532×1170 resolution (460ppi)
  • 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio
  • 800 nits max brightness (typical), 1200 nits peak brightness (HDR)

iPhone 11

  • 1792×828 resolution (326ppi)
  • 1400:1 contrast
  • 625 nits max brightness

That is not to say that the iPhone 11’s display is poor, but in the years between the two models, Apple improved the quality of the iPhone 14’s superior panel. For those who desire even more screen real estate, the new line also comes in a larger model, the iPhone 14 Plus, which features a 6.7-inch OLED panel. The front panel of the iPhone 14 is also protected by a Ceramic Shield layer, which is more durable than the Gorilla glass used in the iPhone 11l.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Camera

Although both phones have dual 12-megapixel camera systems, the iPhone 14 is in a completely different league. The primary camera sensor from the iPhone 14 has been crammed into what appears to be the iPhone 13 Pro.

With much larger 1.9µm pixels (compared to 1.4µm in the iPhone 11), its main sensor is noticeably larger. Additionally, it gains from a wider f/1.5 aperture (as opposed to f/1.8 in the iPhone 11).

The end result is an iPhone 14 camera that performs better in low light conditions and can take in significantly more light than its older sibling.

This is particularly true when you take into account the iPhone 14’s advanced sensor shift stabilization system (the iPhone 11 only has bog-standard OIS) and its superior image processing. For an additional 2x boost to low-light performance across all cameras, the latter now incorporates Apple’s new Photonic Engine, which applies Deep Fusion earlier in the process.

Another major advance from the iPhone 14 is its superior front camera. Yes, both iPhones have 12-megapixel front-facing cameras, but the iPhone 14 has a wider f/1.9 aperture (the iPhone 11 only has f/2.2), and it also has autofocus. Superior group shots and low-light focus as a result.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Battery

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Battery

Apple isn’t one for publishing the capacities of its battery, but we’ve heard a rumor that the iPhone 14 arrives with a 3,279mAh cell. The iPhone 11 has a 3,110mAh battery, and that much is known.

So, in terms of battery capacity, it doesn’t really have much. The iPhone 14 runs a sharper (and therefore more demanding) display, despite having a slightly larger set of cells. The newer phone, however, has a processor that is more effective.

The iPhone 11 easily lasted a day on a single charge during our tests. The iPhone 14 will perform better than the iPhone 13 based on our experience with hardware that is similar to that in the iPhone 13. However, its performance is still unknown.

Our reviewer noted that the iPhone 13’s battery life was “significantly improved compared to the iPhone 12 and what has gone before it”, which would of course include the iPhone 11. We’d anticipate the same since the iPhone 14 has a comparable processor and a slightly larger battery.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Price

The iPhone 11 cost less when it was released in 2020 than the iPhone 14 does right now. For an additional $100 and up, you do, however, get more storage, 5G support, and a more modern design.

iPhone 14

  • iPhone 14 (128GB): $799/£849
  • iPhone 14 (256GB): $899/£959
  • iPhone 14 (512GB): $1,099/£1,179

iPhone 11

  • iPhone 11 (64GB): $699/£699
  • iPhone 11 (128GB): $749/£749
  • iPhone 11 (256GB): $849/£849

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 14: Should You Upgrade?

You can keep an iPhone for a very long time because of Apple’s kind software support.

Even all these years later, the iPhone 11 is still a decent phone with plenty to offer. The performance should remain excellent, the cameras are reliable, and iOS will continue to receive support for a number of years.

However, the iPhone 14 is vastly superior in many ways, with a fantastic display, faster chip, and enhanced camera capabilities, as well as a lighter and newer design.

Although both are excellent, we believe the iPhone 14 to be superior, so if you’ve been debating an upgrade, we advise you to take the plunge.
