It can be difficult to keep track of all the low-cost smartphones Samsung offers. A more recent product from the company is the low-end Galaxy A11, which has an MSRP of $179.99.

Before you buy a new or used Samsung Galaxy A11, let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of this midrange smartphone.

What is Samsung Galaxy A11?

The Galaxy A11 is one of In early 2020, it took the place of the Galaxy A10E as one of Samsung’s most cost-effective smartphones. There are only two storage capacities available—32GB or 64GB—but you can pick from a few traditional Samsung colors, including blue, white, and black.

Android 10 with One UI 2.1 was preinstalled on the Samsung Galaxy A11 that we tested. Since then, in May 2021, it has received the Samsung One UI 3.1 update and is now running Android 11.

Samsung Galaxy A11: Design and Hardware

Samsung Galaxy A11 Review

Samsung’s budget phones mostly look the same, and the Galaxy A11 is no exception.

The device’s glossy, plastic exterior is covered with smudge- and dirt-attracting coating. I understand that the goal is to mimic the appearance and feel of glass, but I would have much rather had a straightforward matte coating.

Near the top of the phone’s back is a fingerprint sensor, which in my testing functioned flawlessly.

Additionally, there are three rear cameras: a primary 13MP lens, a 5MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. To the right of the camera array is a flash.

The Galaxy A11 has a 3.5mm audio jack on the top, which is (thankfully) common in phones around this price, but what isn’t common is the Modern USB Type-C charging port on the A11.

Samsung earns points for using the older microUSB connector, which is still widely used in low-cost smartphones in the United States.

Samsung Galaxy A11 Software, Performance and Battery

The Galaxy A11 comes with One UI 2.1 is the name of the customized version of Android 10 created by Samsung. This means that, aside from the features that call for particular hardware, the software experience is largely comparable to that of the Galaxy S and Note smartphones, which are the industry’s top models.

There are all the typical Android 10 features (full-screen navigation, enhanced notifications, system-wide dark theme, etc.).), plus the functionality Samsung adds on top.

On the Galaxy A11, you’ll feel right at home if you’ve ever used a Samsung phone in the last few years. Overall, I don’t have many issues with One UI, although Samsung continues to produce duplicates of Google’s applications that you can’t completely remove (or even disable, in some cases).

However, if you buy the Galaxy A11 from a carrier, prepare for a lot of bloatware. Over 15 third-party apps were pre-installed on my review unit from Boost Mobile when it was delivered. Some of them even sent spam push notifications, like Boost’s FastNEWS app.

The Galaxy A11 performs about as well as a cheap phone should. Daily use isn’t horrendously bad, but apps can take a few seconds to launch and there can be delays when the phone is waking up from sleep.

The large 4,000mAh battery should last the majority of people for more than two days, so at least the battery life is excellent.

Samsung Galaxy A11 Cameras

Samsung Galaxy A11 Cameras

When I think of Samsung smartphones, I think of stellar cameras, and Samsung Galaxy A11 is no exception. For a $179 device, the three rear cameras produce some impressive photography.

A 2 MP depth camera sharpens the focus on your subject while the 13 MP main camera captures excellent, quick images with a 115-degree field of view.

Should I Buy Samsung Galaxy A11?

The Samsung Galaxy A11 is a textbook budget-friendly phone. It uses basic components and makes some compromises, but it still has the power to shock you.

It earns points for having a headphone jack, a long battery life, and a primary 13MP camera. However, the Galaxy A11 falls short due to an outdated processor, subpar support cameras, and a finish that attracts fingerprints.

With prices that are comparable to those of the Motorola Moto E and OnePlus Nord N100, the Samsung Galaxy A11 is most appropriate for a user with little prior smartphone exposure.

You can also look at the Galaxy A12’s successor from Samsung. MVNOs still prefer the older model, so you can probably find an affordable plan to go with your inexpensive phone.

Buy it if:

  • The phone costs closer to $100.
  • Really, what you want is a cheap phone with Samsung’s One UI.

Don’t buy it if:

  • You desire support for contactless payments.
  • You’re looking for a phone with a top-notch camera.

Final Thoughts on Samsung Galaxy A11 Review

All in all, Samsung Galaxy A11 is a safe bet at an even safer price. Although it isn’t the most powerful phone available, the camera and long battery life set it apart from other low-cost smartphones available.
