The Galaxy A33 5G, in particular, seems to have received a more significant upgrade over its previous generation. So much so that the A33 5G and A53 5G’s differences are ultimately negligible, much like the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72.

The Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is a mid-sized phone, and depending on the size of your hand, it could either be a comfortable fit or a little too big.

The device’s back is made of plastic, and the bump for the camera protrudes slightly from it. The power button, volume rocker, USB-C port, and headphone jack are all located around the edge of the device.

You can choose the phone in black, white, peach, or blue, and we thought the latter two were particularly lovely because they stood out but in a subdued way.

The phone has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen and an IP67 rating, making it water and dust resistant. It should also be durable.

Its 6.4-inch size, FHD+ resolution, and 90Hz refresh rate are all upgrades over the A32 5G. A teardrop notch that barely affects the display area divides the screen into two parts.

You’ll love this display if you enjoy using your smartphone to stream TV on the bus or watch movies on lengthy commutes. It has an AMOLED panel, which means colors are bright and vibrant with excellent contrast.

Much of the improvements in the Galaxy A33 5G stem from its new chipset — the Exynos 1280, the first SoC produced using a 5nm process, is used in the Galaxy A3x series. Eight cores make up the processor inside: two 2.4 GHz cores and six 2.0 GHz cores.

The new GPU, on the other hand, performs 50% better than the A32 while Samsung asserts that the APU is a whopping 400% better, resulting in a significant improvement in AI performance over the previous generation.

There are four rear cameras on the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G, but quantity is not the same as quality.

The smartphone’s photography capabilities are adequate for Instagrammers and TikTokers who are active on social media, but professional or amateur photographers may be disappointed.

A 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide, a 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth-sensing cohort support the primary camera. It’s good to see Samsung bucking the trend of adding 2MP macro cameras to fill out a specs list; 5MP produces noticeably better close-up photos.

A lot of phones have optical image stabilization (OIS), but low-cost phones frequently lack it. OIS compensates for shaky hands when you’re taking a picture or recording a video.

We can certainly see the appeal of the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G, and it’ll likely please people who fall into its core demographic: that’s people who use social media apps a lot, particularly to share their photos; and people who stream lots of videos on their phone.

It’s definitely a budget device though, and if you can stretch to it, we’d recommend the A53 5G over this handset: it’s got a bigger display, better camera array and doesn’t cost too much more.
