Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Phone Review 2022: A Good Foldable Phone
Numerous improvements have been made to Samsung’s most recent Flip, including a larger battery, a new main camera sensor, and the most recent Snapdragon processor.
The Galaxy Z Fold is the company’s flagship product for its foldable play, according to prior positioning. It’s bigger, more extravagant, more expensive, and perhaps most significantly, it was the first, so why not?
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 phone is the most convenient and entertaining phone I’ve tested this year. It’s the “have your cake and eat it too” of smartphones. Its 6.7-inch screen, which is thin and has a high refresh rate, can be folded in half to make it smaller, making it fit into most pockets with ease.
This review analyzes all key information about Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4, which will help you decide whether you should buy it.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Design
It’s understandable if you confused the Flip 3 and Flip 4 devices. Since the design is so effective, it is okay that they are nearly identical. The Flip 4 was improved with Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, aluminum sides, a more durable main screen, and a very slight weight increase that together make the Flip 4 feel sturdy. Even so, I wouldn’t say the phone is heavy. It feels pleasant and satisfyingly firm. It didn’t require special care or a unique approach from the way I handle my other phones.
With an IPX8 rating for water resistance, it can be submerged for 30 minutes up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) deep. Even though that is impressive, Flip 4 is not dust resistant.
The phone has a new matte finish that hides fingerprints and is purple. It is significantly superior to Flip 3’s glossy finish. I like how Flip 4’s aluminum sides have a shiny purple hue to them.
In case you were wondering, the screen crease is still present. I don’t mind it, but I can see how it might bother some people. Since you use the Flip 4 and all phones head-on, it’s not particularly noticeable.
Like a typical phone, the Flip 4’s display is not laminated to a glass panel. It feels like there is nothing between your fingertips and the internet, or between you and your photos, and there is only a thin layer separating them from the high refresh rate screen.
Although mentioning Flip 4 may seem silly, opening and closing it is a pleasure. It takes some getting used to, but after a day or so I could flick it open one-handed like Captain Kirk. The closing sound is ridiculously gratifying and adds to that “personality” These details are what you are paying $1,000 for, as I mentioned earlier.
Camera Of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
An ordinary lens with optical image stabilization and an ultra-wide angle are both features of the dual 12-megapixel camera on the back. Both cameras have slightly improved low and middle-light performance compared to last year’s model and capture excellent images in the majority of lighting situations. Although the ultra-wide camera loses some detail and can appear a little grey in low light, it is still good.
Additionally, the 10-megapixel selfie camera performs admirably. But one of the best features of the Flip is the ability to take selfies with the rear cameras while using the cover display as a viewfinder. You can use the regular or ultra-wide camera, which, especially in low light or party settings, produces much better images than any dedicated selfie camera. For a variety of entertaining photo opportunities, you can also prop the Flip open halfway. The phone can be folded into an L-shape to simulate using an early 2000s camcorder while also having excellent video capture capabilities.
The absence of a telephoto lens is the biggest letdown. At a magnification of two times, digital zoom is acceptable, but beyond that, it looks terrible.
Battery Life Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
Battery life on the Flip 4 is marginally longer thanks to the larger battery and new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. The distinction, though, doesn’t fundamentally alter the situation. On Flip 3, I often managed to avoid having to charge it until the late afternoon. With Flip 4, I could usually get by for a day. However, if I used my phone a lot to watch videos, take pictures, or make video calls, the battery only lasted me until, at most, early evening.
I won’t laugh if I can use my device for a few more hours on a single charge. For someone switching from a non-folding phone, the better battery life of the Flip 4 makes it less of a compromise. But it’s still a factor to take into account.
I played a few YouTube videos, scrolling through my Instagram feed, played a round of PUBG Mobile, then raced a course in Mario Kart Tour, made a 5-minute video call with Zoom, and, finally, played Alto’s Odyssey over the course of 45 minutes with the screen at full brightness. Between 70% and 56%, the battery dropped.
The Flip 4 feels quick and responsive thanks to the new processor and Android 12L. Smooth animations and enjoyable gaming. Split-screen multitasking between two apps works well. When it came to benchmark tests, which let us compare the performance of different phones, the performance was impressive. The Flip 4 outperformed the Flip 3 from a year ago and even the Galaxy S22.
Sustainability Of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
The battery should last more than 500 full charge cycles with at least 80% of its initial capacity, though Samsung does not specify an expected lifespan for it. By authorized service centers in the UK, the phone can typically be fixed, and the battery can be changed. Repairs to the internal display cost £339. The screen is covered under warranty for two years but Samsung evaluates breakages for “evidence of product misuse” and may charge a fee for repairs. It’s advised to get insurance.
Several internal parts are constructed using 20% recycled nylon or plastic. Samsung provides recycling and trade-in programs for used electronics. Although impact analyses for specific products are not published by the company in its annual sustainability reports,
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Prices
All of the benefits of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are carried over to the new Flip 4, which also fixes the majority of its flaws. I tried a Samsung review sample that was lent to me more than two weeks. Despite the fact that I appreciated each and every improvement, Samsung could still do more, particularly in terms of boosting the battery life and the quality of the camera. The cover display should have more features, in my opinion.
However, until the Galaxy Z Flip can consistently last all day on a single charge, it won’t be considered truly ready for the general public. The Flip 4 is getting there, but it’s still a ways off.
It’s also important to note that, despite the phone’s $1,000 price tag, Samsung and wireless carriers have been generously subsidizing it. As a result, those who really want one can now afford one.
Flip 3 Vs. Flip 4 Vs. Flip 5G Vs. Flip 4 S22
Should Flip 3 users upgrade if they are currently using it? I wouldn’t. I don’t think you get enough “new” on Flip 4 to justify an upgrade from the previous year. A more difficult decision would be whether to purchase a Flip 4 or a discounted Flip 3. To save money, I’d probably encourage you to purchase Flip 3.
I do believe upgrading is worthwhile if you currently own a Flip original or Flip 5G, especially if you can score one of those sizable trade-in discounts. A larger battery, cover screen, faster and more effective processor, and the main display with a high refresh rate are all included in the more durable design that is water resistant.
The key factor in choosing between a Flip 4 and a Galaxy S22 is whether you want a foldable phone or not. Actually, you’re paying $200 more for that ability. The Flip 4’s processor is faster, but the Galaxy S22’s battery lasts long after a single charge.
In the end, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 serves as a delightful reminder that a creative design that strikes a balance between form, function, and fun can go a long way. The Flip 4 still struggles with fundamentals like battery life and photography, despite all the upgrades being positive steps.
Our Verdict on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Phone Review
Galaxy Z Flip 4 is one of the most intriguing phones on the market right now. There’s something enjoyable about unfolding the Flip, whereas standard phones have grown stale and monotonous.
You can use it just like a conventional “candy bar” phone but get the added benefit of it being super portable as well as several special features that aren’t found on other phones aside from its sibling the Z Fold 4.
